Rewire Travel’s Favorite Places

Iceland (during the Summer Solstice)

Iceland has an incredible array of landscapes and experiences, ranging from waterfalls and glaciers to volcanoes and blue lagoons. The people are friendly, the travel is easy, and it’s an explorer’s paradise. Just rent a car and go.

To maximize our time, we love visiting during Summer Solstice. The 21 hours of pure daylight really help stretch the days and let you take your time. And at around midnight, join the sunniest barcrawl you’ll ever get to see.

A large waterfall flowing over a cliff with a rocky black beach in the foreground and lush green moss-covered rocks on the side.
Geothermal area with steaming vents, yellow mineral deposits, and barren landscape under a cloudy sky.

A narrow, rocky canyon with clear blue water flowing through the middle, surrounded by large rocks and green shrubs, with distant mountains in the background.

RV Trip to Goblin Valley and Capitol Reef, Utah

The type of trip most people dream of, but never think they can actually make it happen. Renting an RV and driving your family across the country on an epic summer road trip?! That seems like a lot. We don’t have the time or the ability to pull that off.

Well, we tried, and we survived to tell the tale. And in fact, it was one of our favorite family memories. Utah is an absolute gem for landscapes, and we elected to stray from the more popular (and crowded) destinations and camp in Goblin Valley and Capitol Reef. Two locations that are custom made for exploring kids, especially Goblin Valley with it’s otherworldly hoodoos. Wake up in the desert, hike up a ridge, and see terrain you never thought possible (at least, not on Earth).

Two young girls washing a white Ford RV with the words 'Four Winds' and 'El Monte RV' on it at a gas station.
Three children sitting on large rock formations in a desert landscape with layered reddish-brown cliffs in the background.
A white recreational vehicle parked on a curved road with colorful red and brown canyon cliffs in the background.
A group of five people, including adults and children, hiking through a narrow desert canyon with red rock walls and a clear blue sky.
Two people smiling in front of the Taj Mahal with lush greenery and colorful flowers in the background.

Taj Mahal and Agra, India

One of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World for a reason, pictures do not do this ivory hued marble mausoleum justice. The craftsmanship is impeccable, the view breathtaking, and you feel transported in time as you behold this emporer’s final love letter to his departed wife.

After taking in the sights, go relax at the world-class Oberoi Amarvilas hotel in Agra. The hotel will take you directly to the Taj Mahal with a personal guide, and your room will have a view of the monument if you haven’t had enough. Definitely a bucket list hotel that we didn’t know we needed!

Republic of Ireland

The Emerald Isle is no stranger to tourists, and it shows in their warmth and hospitality. Sure you can (and should!) hit the classic sights, but we also love finding out of the way places to explore and new reasons to visit.

We’ve been on a bus with 30 family members, 8 month old included, touring the West Coast. We’ve seen Notre Dame play football in Dublin. We’ve toured the historical sites of conflict and war. And we’ve certainly had our share of music, whiskey and of course, Guinness. Find a reason and go. You won’t regret it. Sláinte!

Colorful pub exterior with bright blue upper walls, red window frames and door, green sign with gold letters, and Guinness-themed decorations including a toucan mascot holding a beer, advertising Guinness brand.
A coastal marshland with grassy patches, rocks, and small pools of water under a partly cloudy sky with a faint rainbow in the distance.

Interior of a historic prison with multiple levels of cells, metal walkways, and a large glass skylight ceiling.
A storage room with wooden barrels on black metal racks, a sign on a black brick wall reading 'Jameson Distillery Bow St', and various overhead lights and equipment hanging from the ceiling.
An older man wearing a flat cap and jacket is sitting on a chair outdoors, holding a young child on his lap, and smiling at the camera. The man is holding a pint glass, and the background shows a brick and wooden exterior of a building.

The Douro Valley and Porto, Portugal

In the North of Portugal you can visit the Douro wine region by day, and play in Porto by night. The Douro vineyards wind along the river, creating a trail of delicious ports and traditional wines to sample and enjoy. Not as popular as France or Italy, Portugal’s wine region is able to stand it’s ground with the best in Europe.

Porto is a charming city, built along the river with winding streets and beautiful views. We highly recommend going in June to celebrate the Festa de São João, a truly one of a kind of experience where seemingly every resident is out, ready to celebrate and (lightly) bop each other on the heads with toy mallets. You’ve got to see it to believe it.

Two wooden barrels stacked on a shelf, labeled with vintage and content information.
A cityscape of Lisbon, Portugal with colorful buildings on a hillside, a body of water in the foreground, and boats, including a traditional wooden boat and smaller boats near it, on the water.
Rows of wine bottles stored horizontally on wooden racks in a cellar, with red caps and dark glass bottles.
A group of four friends enjoying a street celebration at night, holding colorful lanterns on sticks. The street is decorated with string lights and multicolored banners, with a crowd of people and outdoor umbrellas in the background.
